Press Trust of India / Thiruvananthapuram June 03, 2008, 13:19 IST

The Kerala government has suggested that the Centre continue the ban on the Students Islamic Movement (SIMI) of India as it was still carrying out unlawful activities in the state.

In a affidavit submitted before the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal set up by the Centre, which concluded its two day sitting here yesterday, the state said that SIMI was still carrying out unlawful activities in Kerala.

The state also presented before the tribunal, details of cases registered against SIMI activists. Official sources said the state did not ask for a ban on other outfits in Kerala. The Tribunal was in the state to review the ban on SIMI, which was in force since 2006.
