ICC dump Pakistan venues from World Cup

PAKISTAN were stripped of their 2011 World Cup matches by the International Cricket Council on Friday as growing security concerns cast the Asian giants firmly into the sporting wilderness.

The decision came at an ICC executive board meeting in Dubai with the international body saying it had acted after noting the “uncertain political situation” in Pakistan.

Ijaz Butt, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, expressed his regret at the decision.

“It’s a disappointing decision but it can’t be helped – nobody wants to play in Pakistan following the attacks in Lahore,” he said, referring to the March 3 attack on the Sri Lankan squad in the city which killed eight Pakistanis and wounded seven Sri Lankan players and their assistant coach.

The 2011 tournament was to be held jointly by India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, as well as Pakistan, and was to have involved a total of 16 matches.

Ricky Ponting, captain of defending World Cup champions Australia, said his players simply had to accept the decision and move on.

“There’s a lot of thought that has gone into the ICC making the decision,” Ponting told a press conference in Johannesburg on Friday after Australia’s 3-2 defeat in their one-day series against South Africa. “I can’t say that I’m overly surprised.

“There have been a number of events that have happened in Pakistan over the last couple of years that have led to this decision being made. It’s out of our hands as players and as captain of your country.”

No Cricket should be in Pakistan until they eliminate terrorism from Pakistan. See the recent situation in Pakistan. It is not Cricket-worthy.

Bomber eliminates 23 troops in Hangu attack

The country’s security apparatus suffered a devastating blow on Saturday when a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a military checkpost in Hangu, eliminating 23 soldiers.
Seven policemen, 10 security personnel and nine civilians were injured in the blast.
‘A suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into our check-post close to a police station in Doaba,’ a security official said. ‘We suffered the most casualties.’
Some officials said the bomber had rammed his vehicle into a Thall-bound military convoy in Doaba, on Hangu-Parachinar highway.
They said 11 vehicles, which were part of the convoy, had been destroyed in the attack, which happened not far from the army camp. The military, however, denied its convoy had been hit.
Eyewitnesses said security forces cordoned off the area and blocked the Kohat-Parachinar highway at Doaba and nobody was allowed to go near the scene of the explosion.
The army called its own bomb disposal squad from Thall Garrison. The check-post was located on the Hangu-Parachinar road, which remained closed for more than a year when militants blocked the artery to stop food and fuel supplies from reaching Parachinar, the Kurram Agency’s headquarters.
In another incident earlier on Saturday morning, one person was killed and three were injured in a blast in Malikabad area of Hangu bazaar.
The SHO of Doaba police station, Ammal Khan, and constable Asal Murad, who were sitting in a mobile van close to the army camp, were injured.
Police said the bomber had used 100kg of explosives. They blamed the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan for the strike, but the banned militant outfit did not claim responsibility for the bombing.
The dead and the seriously injured were taken to the civil hospital in Hangu and the Combined Military Hospital in Thall, a police spokesman for the Kohat region said.
Preliminary reports suggested that the suicide bomber had come to the area on Friday and took up residence in Hangu. ‘It was in the knowledge of the terrorists that a convoy would pass through the camp on Saturday afternoon,’ a local said.
Hangu has seen bloodletting bred by sectarianism over the past two years. A total of 48 people had died in sectarian clashes during Muharram last year.
The military had carried out a major clean-up operation in Doaba in August last year to flush out militants who had infiltrated from nearby Kurram and Orakzai regions.
Helicopter gunships have been attacking suspected militant hideouts in Orakzai during the last couple of weeks. ‘Most of the casualties are security forces and some policemen have also been killed,’ a security official said.
‘The bomber was driving a pick-up truck which he rammed into a convoy passing by a security checkpost,’ senior police officer Fareed Khan said in Kohat.
President Asif Ali Zardari, who is in China attending an international economic conference, ‘condemned the attack and vowed to root out terrorism and extremism from the country’, the presidency said in a statement.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani ‘strongly condemned’ the incident, describing the suicide attack as ‘a cowardly act of terrorism’, his office said in a statement.

alertpak adds: Actually , the Police Check Post in Doaba, Hangu has been made into ruins and the contingent forces posted there were not prepared anyway to combat such Talibani disasters. No body from Talibani Forces or other Mujaheedin outfits did not claim this great credit so far. But the expert sources confirm that all these Talibani attacks , severe blasts or suicidal attacks are occurred out of design of Baitullah Mehsud , “ Blast once in Two Weeks” or Blast Twice in a Week” as far as practical. The disturbed zone of Hangu Districts is encompassed by some tribal areas like – North Wazirstan Orakzai, Kurram etc. On 15th April, 09 another blast tolled 16 lives including 10 police personnel in Harichand locality in Charas Adda. The Talibanis were successful to destroy an office of a NGO and a Cable TV Office through a big blast in NWFP on 16th April, 2009. So Baitullah is not only a man of words , He is also a man of deeds.

At least 16 people, including 10 policemen, were killed and several more injured Wednesday in a suicide bombing in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province, officials said.
The bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a police checkpoint in the Tangi area of the province’s Charsadda district, said Mohammad Yar, the district’s police officer.
“Nine policemen, including two officers, and six civilians died on the spot, while one officer succumbed to his injuries at the hospital” Yar told DPA.
He feared that death toll might increase as some of the around one dozen injured are in critical condition.
“I see here six civilian vehicles, all of them destroyed,” local journalist Sabaz Ali Tareen told DPA over telephone from the scene.
“It’s hard to believe that anyone on board these vehicles would have survived,” he added.
“The road is littered with human blood and flesh and I can still smell gunpowder,” Tareen said.

Pakistan is a state that was founded on Islam, and today is fit to be declared a terrorist state. Yet the people of India are routinely told that Islam is a religion of peace and it is the Hindus that are intolerant, whereas nothing is as far away from the truth. It is a fact that Islam is not a religion, not even a cult, but a complete social and political system of living. How a Muhammadan must dress (for men, ankles must show, for women, the burka and the hijab and the ankles must not show), to how a man should grow his beard (and dye it with henna once it is white), how to use stones for purifying oneself, how to behead animals starting from the age of 4, how to mutilate women (female genitals are mutilated, google “Ayaan Hirsi Ali” for more), how to kill kaffirs and take their women and children as sex slaves, and last but not the least, how to lie in order to further the goals of islam.

If anybody thinks that I am making this all up in order to make islam look bad, one can research oneself. You really can’t make the stuff up that is in the Kuran, the Hadiths and the Sira.

Taliban claims victory near Islamabad :: They are nearer to Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) — Taliban militants who implemented Islamic law in Pakistan’s violence-plagued Swat Valley last week have now taken control of a neighboring district.

Control of the Buner district brings the Taliban closer to the capital, Islamabad, than they have been since they started their insurgency. Islamabad is 96 kilometers (60 miles) from the district.

“Our strength is in the hundreds,” said Moulana Mohammad Khalil, as heavily armed men openly patrolled the roads in pickup trucks, singing Islamic anthems.

The militants had taken control of the area to ensure that Islamic law, or sharia, is properly imposed, Khalil said.

The government called the advance into Buner a breach of a recently-signed peace agreement. Watch as Taliban is emboldened »

“Now Taliban are violating the peace agreement, and if they continue the government will take strict action and not allow the Taliban to create a parallel government in that area,” said Mian Iftikhar, a spokesman for the regional administration in the North West Frontier Province, where Buner is located.

Last week, the Taliban imposed sharia law in Swat Valley as part of a peace deal with the government. Under the Taliban’s strict interpretation, the law prevents women from being seen in public without their husbands or fathers.

Earlier this month, the militant movement made forays into Buner and clashed with locals before withdrawing.

Now the Taliban appear to have returned in force — a move that indicates the recent government concessions may have emboldened the militants to expand their reach.

The Pakistani government appears unable or unwilling to stop the Taliban’s steady advance deeper into the territory of this nuclear-armed country.

In the days after the government’s April 13 decision to implement sharia law in Swat, pro-Taliban clerics have staged rallies in Swat and Islamabad. They have demanded the imposition of Islamic law across Pakistan and beyond.

Speaking before an audience of tens of thousands in the Swat Valley town of Mingora on Sunday, cleric Sufi Muhammed declared democracy and Pakistan’s judicial system “un-Islamic.”

A Taliban spokesman in Swat went a step further Tuesday, calling anyone opposed to his strict interpretation of Islam a non-Muslim. IReport:Should the U.S. interfere in Pakistan?

“Let the judges and the lawyers go to Islamic university,” Muslim Khan said. After “they learn Islamic rules, Islamic regulation, they can continue to work.”

The rise of the Taliban in Swat has alarmed and frightened some members of local civil society there.

“This is a time bomb for the country,” said Aftab Alam, the head of the lawyers’ association in Swat district.

Meanwhile, in another Taliban-run region called Orakzai, details emerged of militants forcing a small community of Sikhs to pay a jaziya, or “minority tax,” of 10.5 million rupees (roughly $130,000) earlier this month.

Khan said if his vision of an Islamic society is fulfilled in Pakistan, terror mastermind Osama Bin Laden will be welcome to travel and live openly here. “Sure, he’s a Muslim, he can go anywhere,” Khan said.

Khan added that he would like to see sharia law implemented beyond Pakistan, even in America, a country he knows intimately. For four years, the Taliban spokesman lived in the United States, working as a painter near Boston, Massachusetts.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned Wednesday that Pakistan is in danger of falling into terrorist hands because of failed government policies.

“I think that we cannot underscore the seriousness of the existential threat posed to the state of Pakistan by continuing advances, now within hours of Islamabad, that are being made by a loosely confederated group of terrorists and others who are seeking the overthrow of the Pakistani state, a nuclear armed state,” Clinton said in Washington.

She added the international community is working closely to combat extremism in both Pakistan and Afghanistan, but Pakistanis themselves need to take responsibility.
