My Name Is Khan glorifies Islam, message is Pan Islamic

Posted by jagoindia on February 20, 2010

In fact, the buzz is also strong that SRK couldn’t have taken an anti- Pakistan stand because MNIK has a strong pro- Muslim storyline. Also, SRK enjoys a huge fan base in Pakistan.

“My Name Is Khan glorifies Muslims with the line that not all Khans can be called terrorists. In such a scenario, the star cannot afford to anger Muslims and especially spoil his Pakistan market. Already, the buzz is strong about his film in the Muslim world after the Sena issue,” pointed out a trade analyst.

source

The stakes are high for MNIK , and a failure at the box- office would severely harm SRK’s position in the industry.

If you have seen MNIK you will know that the film’s theme and message is pan-Islamic, the audience spread all over the planet but concentrated in South Asia, the Middle East including the Gulf, and Europe.

The IPL-Pak players’ issue was secondary to MINK but at the same time central to ensure that MINK was accepted by Muslims worldwide. For once in his life SRK played the Muslim card. The man who said he wouldn’t apologise to the SS and asked why he should at all do that was to begin with willing to create a tense environment in Mumbai and India. That is the bottom line.

Looking back everything is clear as mirror. My Name Is Khan is an international hit. SRK played his cards well. I think he should now get his bearings right and head for northwest Pakistan, pick up the Raju/Rahul name/act and do an action flick with the last scene showing him at the entrance to Osama’s cave dwelling telling that long-beard in a measured tone ‘hey My Name Is Not Khan…’

Drunk Iranian girls assault, bite police in Bangalore

Drunken Iranian girls bite and beat up policemen
Aravind Gowda
Bangalore, February 19, 2010

The prospect of 60 lashings appears to have had a sobering effect on two sloshed Iranian women students who allegedly assaulted policemen conducting routine checks on Wednesday night.

This is the stiff punishment for drinking that awaits them back home if they are deported. Consequently, they were believed to be pleading for mercy a day after their drunken display of rage.

The two foreign nationals were produced before a local court on Thursday evening. The government may deport the women to Iran if they are found guilty of any of the multiple cases registered against them by the Bangalore police.

The Iranians in the dock – Azhar Fazile and Fathima Muhmad – are both in their late 20s and study in separate private colleges in the city. On Wednesday, the women were travelling in a car when they were flagged down by the Commercial Street police near M. G. Road around 1 a.m.

Both girls were drinking beer and wine in the car, the police said. They were also found to be in possession of several liquor bottles. This was not all. Neither of them had a valid driving licence. The car’s registration papers were also not available.

According to the police, Fathima — who was at the wheel — was subjected to an alcometer test. Her alcohol consumption level was detected to be 59 per cent above permissible limits, the police said, adding that they then tried to take possession of the women’s car.

“That’s when Fathima and Azhar started throwing a violent tantrum. They hurled abuses and dared the policemen to arrest them. One of them even bit sub-inspector Rao Ganesh Janardhan when he tried to get them out of the car,” Commercial Street assistant commissioner of police Ashok Kumar said.

“When I managed to pull Fathima out of the car, she started hitting me again with a tool. Then she fled,” Janardhan, who sustained a minor fracture on the forearm, said.

But Fathima returned soon and smashed her own car’s windscreen with a stone, said the police. The two were somehow overpowered with the help of bystanders and taken to the police station.

When the crew of a Kannada TV channel turned up at the police station, Fathima rushed towards the cameraman and smashed his equipment, a police officer said. She had to be pinned to the ground for a few minutes.

After some time both girls came to their senses, he added.

The police have arrested the women and registered multiple cases against them. “We have impounded their passports. Both are in India on student visas. Such behaviour can be ruinous for their academic career,” deputy commissioner of police Chandrashekhar said.

The police have informed the Iranian Consulate in Hyderabad about the incident. “Both girls have realised their mistake. They are pleading for mercy,” said Kumar.

The city police have issued a stern warning to all foreign students in the city. Bangalore is a popular destination for students from Iran, Lebanon, Bahrain and several east African countries.

Mullahs issue fatwa forbidding Muslim Americans from using full-body airport scanners

Islamic scholars issue fatwa forbidding Muslim-Americans from using full-body airport scanners

BY Neil Nagraj  DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Friday, February 12th 2010

A body of North American Islamic scholars has issued a fatwa, or religious decree, forbidding Muslims from passing through the devices, the Detroit -Free Press reports, saying they violate the faith’s teachings on modesty.

“It is a violation of clear Islamic teachings that men or women be seen naked by other men and women,” the ruling, issued by The Fiqh Council of North America, states.

“Islam highly emphasizes haya (modesty) and considers it part of faith. The Quran has commanded the believers, both men and women, to cover their private parts.”

Another Muslim group, The Council on American-Islamic Relations, backed the proclamation.

“We support the Fiqh Council’s statement on full-body scanners and believe that the religious and privacy rights of passengers can be respected while maintaining safety and security,” Nihad Awad, national executive director of CAIR, told the Detroit Free Press.

The machines at issue render a detailed outline of the scanned individual’s body that the Transportation Security Administration says is immediately destroyed.

The TSA says going through the scanners is “optional to all passengers.” Individuals can refuse the screening, the newspaper reports, and instead be patted down by a TSA guard.

The employment of full-body scanners has come under fire from civil libertarians, who say the devices are analogous to a strip search.

Pune blast resulted from security diversion for “My Name Is Khan”: Bitta, Chairman of All India Anti-Terrorist Front

Pune blast resulted from security diversion for MNIK: Bitta

PTI, Feb 17, 2010

PUNE:  A security diversion to protect the Shah Rukh Khan movie ‘MNIK’ offered an opportune moment for the ISI to engineer the terror attack in Pune, Chairman of All India Anti-Terrorist Front M S Bitta alleged.

“THE ISI capitalized on the prevailing situation to strike Pune where security infrastructure was lame,” he told a press conference here.

Bitta who visited the blast victims at a city hospital, said Pune is a big city in India and a leading educational and economic hub and the masterminds of the German Bakery blast had designs to harm that status.

“Beefing up security in Pune after the blast is nothing but a farce. Why the government did not do it earlier in view of the burgeoning proportions of the city ?,” he asked and blamed politicians for playing “politics over the dead bodies”.

Bitta also criticised Shiv Sena and MNS for their “divisive politics” and said that was precisely what Pakistan wanted.

He demanded immediate hanging of Pakistani gunman Ajmal Kasab and Afzal Guru involved in the Parliament attack and constitution of Anti-Terrorist military court to try cases on fast track.

“Afzal is still evading the noose and Kasab is enjoying mutton Biryani from Mumbai police,” he commented.

Stone pelting a lucrative business in Kashmir valley, mastermind arrested

Posted by jagoindia on February 18, 2010

Stone pelting mastermind arrested; protests turn a business

Press Trust Of India
Srinagar, February 05, 2010

Police on Friday arrested a person, alleged to be the kingpin of stone pelters in Kashmir valley, and claimed to have found documents, which suggest this had fast turned into a lucrative ‘business’ for unemployed youths offering their ‘service’ for a price.

Police had launched a massive drive against stone pelters in the valley and their investigations led to a house in Bemina colony on outskirts of the city after which they found several documents suggesting his involvement in stone- pelting business for nearly last two years, official sources said in Srinagar today.

The arrested person identified as Irshad Ahmed was interrogated by the police which recovered dozens of SIM cards, threat letters, fake press identity cards, cheque books and well maintained account registers which state the expenditure for stone pelting incidents in various parts of the valley.

The first register contained 294 names along with their photographs and mentions the details of money paid to them for their stone pelting actitivies in the last one year in downtown city, the sources said.

Police claimed to have recovered sketches of roads leading from Ganderbal to Leh, a route used by army personnel to maintain essential supplies to Ladakh division, they said.

Srinagar: Stone pelting in Kashmir valley appears to be fast turning into a lucrative ‘business’ for some unemployed youths offering this ‘service’ for a price.

Several youths are also operating ‘stone pelting’ cartels funded by separatist organisations and some political parties, sources said today, adding business worth lakhs of rupees is usually generated through this activity.

Details in this regard came out during extensive interrogation of a stone pelter arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir police over a period of last three days.

Separatist groups especially those owing allegiance to Pakistan-terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashker-e-Taiba are alleged to have formed several groups comprising a minimum of dozen people, sources in the interrogation team said.

These groups are paid a hefty amount ranging between Rs5 to Rs8 lakh, they said, adding a part of this money is handed over to another group known as “initiators” who pick up stones and start pelting on police and para-military forces — sometimes on trivial issues.

The groups, which are alleged to have been receiving funds from a political party as well, have stationed their people invarious localities and other districts of the Valley, the sources said. This could be the reason for stone pelting incidents occuring in a synchronised manner throughout the valley during agitations and protests, they said.

The sources said while the exact amount of money being pumped into the stone-pelting business was yet to be estimated, it could be running into lakhs of rupees.

Adding to the woes of policemen were protestors making use of stones and buildingmaterial kept by government agencies on roads for constructionactivities, the sources said.

The Government should ensure completion of work within a time frame as otherwise these materials would come handy for the stone pelters, they said.

Pune blasts: 4 Kashmiri handicraft sellers arrested in Hampi

Posted by jagoindia on February 18, 2010

Pune link: 4 held in Hampi
Bellary, Feb. 17: Four Kashmiri men were taken into custody in Hampi on Wednesday in connection with Saturday’s terror attack on the German Bakery in Pune.

A police team from Pune, following specific clues in emails sent from IP addresses in Hampi, detained the four suspects who sources said sold artefacts at Virapura Gadde Island in the Tungabhadra river.

Investigating officials are looking for three other suspects in the heritage town that draws thousands of foreign tourists every year. In Virapura Gadde, where a franchise of the German Bakery is located and from where the emails were sent, seven Internet cafés were shut down since Tuesday evening.

Fearing for their safety, many foreign tourists staying in resorts on the island, a kilometre from Hampi by coracle, started moving to hotels in Hampi and Hospet after news spread of the suspects being taken into custody.

Investigators believe that a part of the Pune attack conspiracy could have been hatched in Hampi, sources said.

The Pune police team arrived in Hampi after carrying out investigations in Bhatkal in the Uttara Kannada district, the hometown of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen co-founder Riyaz Bhatkal.

The Kashmiri community in Hampi has been under the scanner earlier as well, with the Bengaluru police arresting a suspected Kashmiri terrorist, Imran Jalal, in Hampi in January 2007. Jalal established the now-defunct Kashmiri-Rajasthani Handicrafts Shop Owners’ Association that comprised over 35 Kashmiris.

4 Kashmiris among 40 detained in Pune probe
TNN, Feb 18, 2010

BELLARY/BANGALORE: Four Kashmiri youths have been taken into custody in Hampi in connection with the February 13 explosion in Pune that left 11 persons dead. The detention was made by a team of the Maharashtra police near Virupapura Gaddi locality.

The Pune blast site was littered with handicrafts items, leading the Mumbai police to Hampi. The four Kashmiris are sellers of handicrafts. The police are looking for three other persons, according to sources.

Dozens of other detentions have been made in Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune on the basis of intelligence, call records and whatever ‘little information’ sleuths could glean from the CCTV footage containing images of activities on North Main Road, where the German Bakery’s entrance is located.

But superintendent of police Seemanth Kumar Singh denied the arrest of anybody in connection with the Pune blast. Another SP, Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar, told TOI no arrest or detentions had been made. “Neither we nor any other state police force has arrested or detained anyone.’’

The Maharashtra police team inspected various cyber cafes in Hampi, a popular haunt for foreign tourists. They questioned some foreigners, and enquired with the local police and hotel owners about people who had booked rooms for a week and left in a hurry. The police have visited some of the villages surrounding Hampi. More than 40 hotels catering to foreign tourists are located in Hampi.

Three years ago, a suspected terrorist, Bilal, from Kashmir, was arrested in Bangalore. An LeT operative, he had planned to attack the Bengaluru International Airport and Wipro and Infosys offices.

A German’s View on Islam: Why the Peaceful Majority Muslims are Irrelevant

Posted by jagoindia on February 18, 2010

German’s View on Islam: It’s the Fanatics, Who Rule

I used to know a man whose family were German aristocracy prior to World War Two. They owned a number of large industries and estates. I asked him how many German people were true Nazis, and the answer he gave has stuck with me and guided my attitude toward fanaticism ever since.

“Very few people were true Nazis,” he said, “but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, we had lost control and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories.”

We are told again and again by “experts” and “talking heads” that Islam is the religion of peace, and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the spectre of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam. The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history.

It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honor killers. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. The hard quantifiable fact is that the “peaceful majority”, the “silent majority”, is cowed and extraneous.

Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant. China ‘s huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.

The average Japanese individual prior to World War II was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet. And, who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery? Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were “peace loving”?

History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points: Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence.

Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don’t speak up, because, like my friend from Germany, they will awaken one day and find that the fanatics own them and the end of their world will have begun.

Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghanis, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late.

As for us who watch it all unfold; we must pay attention to the only group that counts; the fanatics who threaten our way of life.
