JAIPUR: The focus of the serial bomb blasts’ probe seems to have shifted to Bharatpur and this is especially after the detention of madrassa teachers (qazis) Mohammed Ilyas, Hakimmudin and PCO-owner Kamli a few days back. As many as 50 people from Bharatpur have reportedly been detained over the past few days by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the serial blasts, sources said.
“It is not just Ilyas, Hakimmudin and Kamli, many more are going through interrogation. Some detainees have even been released after interrogation while a few more have been picked up recently,” said a senior police official at Bharatpur on the condition of anonymity. The activities of the investigating teams in Bharatpur have intensified recently.
“Though detentions are being made from the time when Ilyas was arrested, there have been much more detentions recently, especially after his interrogation,” said the cop. Many suspicious documents were recovered during the qazi’s detention from his house near Kumher gate. After his formal arrest recently, the Special Operation Group (SOG) booked him for possessing fake passports and possessing wealth inproportionate to his income and his connections in Middle-East. According to the SOG, the qazi was receiving monetary help from people living in other states including Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat and had visited many Middle-East countries.
It is learnt that he had also divulged details about his associates in Bharatpur. The recent detentions are said to be the fall-out of these revelations. “It would not have been possible for him to prepare forge passports on his own, so possibility of some more people there helping him was there. It has now been confirmed during his interrogation,” said a police official.
“Apart from that, a scrutiny of call records of his mobile has helped investigators in locating his associates in Bharatpur. Some more arrests from Bharatpur are likely in near future,” he added. As Ilyas was living in Mumbai from 1989 to 1993 and his role is suspected in Mumbai blasts, the investigator are said to be drilling him for more leads during interrogation.
Another qazi Hakimuddin and Kamli were arrested on the basis of revelations made by Ilyas. Hakimuddin is a native of Nagla Imam Khan village in Mathura district, and has been living in Bharatpur for the past two years while Kamli had been running the booth at Kumher Gate in Idgah Colony there. “During his interrogation, they have also revealed some suspicious activities in Bharatpur that is being probed by the SIT team,” said the official.
